When is the best time of day to schedule surgery?

The morning. Studies show you’re four times less likely to have surgery-related problems in the morning than between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Why? No one can say for sure, but early in the day, operating rooms are well stocked and prepped, doctors and nurses are generally well rested, and nothing yet has happened to delay or stress out surgeons and anesthesiologists. “It’s the one time of the day when we’re all on the same page,” one operating room nurse said.

Which is the best month to get pregnant?

August. This one, no doubt, is debatable, but here are two practical arguments for August: 1) Getting pregnant then means you’ll probably have a May baby, and you won’t be several months pregnant during the long, hot, summer months. 2) The worst morning sickness for pregnant women usually occurs during the first three months, so conceiving in August usually means the worst bouts of nausea will be a thing of the past by the winter holidays, when people tend to socialize more. So even if you can’t have wine with Thanksgiving dinner or a cocktail at a Christmas party, at least you won’t have to worry about being nauseous then.

When is the best time of the day to call the police and expect them to show up quickly?

3 a.m. to 4 a.m. This time, otherwise known as “the dead hour,” is when, according to one cop, “even most of the criminals are asleep.” 911 dispatchers receive far fewer calls during this one-hour period, so it’s more likely that your call, however minor, will receive prompt response from the police. This is not to say that crimes don’t happen during this hour. They do, and sometimes they’re quite serious. Many police departments make sure they have at least three-quarters of the number of officers working during the wee hours as they do during other, busier times of the day.
